This Guided Application and Practice (GAP) session provides opportunity for foster and adoptive parents to learn from the experiences of the facilitator and from the experiences of each other. The facilitator, a former foster and an adopted child, will guide participants to think about how experiences with fostering/adoption have impacted their lives. Participants will learn about adoption from the child’s point of view and will be able to identify what fears, questions, or concerns they think the child may have about leaving foster care and entering adoption. The participants will learn the emotional and psychological impact on family members after finalizing the adoption. The facilitator will guide conversation about helping adopted children develop skills and relationships needed to thrive in adoption/adulthood and the facilitator will share her own personal experiences.
