In this training we’ll start by examining the stages of learning to read (phonics, fluency, and comprehension). After a crash course in The Science of Reading, we’ll discuss how trauma affects learning, including learning to read. Finally, we’ll explore practical strategies for supporting struggling readers: these strategies will work for all readers, regardless of whether or not they have trauma, but they are especially useful for supporting kids with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES).
