This professional development session, The Court Process and the Role of the Foster Parent in Child Welfare, provides foster parents with essential knowledge and skills to navigate the judicial system effectively. Participants will learn key terminology used in child welfare cases, gain an understanding of the life cycle of a case, and explore the frequency and processes of court proceedings. Emphasis will be placed on fostering collaboration with key partners, including caseworkers, youth specialists, CASAs (Court-Appointed Special Advocates), and GALs (Guardian ad Litem), while highlighting the critical role of foster parents as advocates for the children in their care. The training equips participants to confidently support children through the court process, ensuring their best interests are represented and upheld.
