This course will provide information and tools for interacting and supporting teenagers within the foster care system specifically around sexuality, gender identity, mental health, loss and grief. Participants will be able to understand terms and concepts related to sexual orientation and gender identity and recognize the importance of using correct names and pronouns when addressing youth. Participants will be able to develop a safe environment to feel comfortable talking about sexual orientation and gender identity. Through this course participants will also come to understand common mental health diagnoses like depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation all while gaining the tools necessary to support teenagers experiencing grief and loss, as well.
