Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®) is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI is an evidence- based model that was originally found by Dr. Karyn Purvis of the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development. TBRI uses core principals to build connections with children. It is through connection that children heal from past traumatic experiences.
Children and youth who have experienced foster care have often experienced complex developmental traumas. This affects their attachment abilities, behaviors, mental health, and development. Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) is a therapeutic model that trains individuals to provide effective support and treatment for vulnerable children. TBRI has been used effectively with children and youth of all ages and various trauma needs.
All staff at Focus on Youth are trained in the TBRI model and are committed to working with children who have experienced trauma.

Trauma Competent Care (TCC)
Complex trauma is when a child experiences abandonment, neglect, and repeated abuse, starting when they were very young and from the people who were supposed to keep them safe. This kind of complex trauma changes everything from brain development and relationships to physical growth. It impacts so much that traditional methods of parenting, teaching, and interacting often don’t work. We train our staff and parents in Trauma Competent Care. This deep dive into trauma helps everyone understand how to go beyond being informed and start implementing trauma-informed care.
