Is there a fee to attend trainings?
Preplacement Trainings are free for all attendees. Other trainings on the website may require a fee to attend if you are not a licensed Focus on Youth foster parent, respite provider, or volunteer affiliated with Focus on Youth. Caregivers licensed with other agencies may attend and the licensing agency will be invoiced for the cost of the trainings. There are times when scholarships are available for those who are facing financial hardship and would still like to attend trainings.
Do you provide Continuing Education?
We offer continuing education credits (CEU) through the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board . We are an approved provider for Social Workers and Counselors. Other CEU approvals may be requested.
How many hours of training do I need to become a Foster Parent?
ODJFS requires that prospective foster parents attend 36 hours of Preplacement Trainings prior to becoming a licensed foster parent.
Can I take training at Focus on Youth if I am licensed with another agency?
Yes. It is encouraged to get prior approval from you licensing agency to make sure they will accept the training. After you take a training with us your agency will be invoiced for the cost of the training.
Can Focus on Youth foster parents take training outside of Focus on Youth?
Yes. Focus on Youth foster parents should contact the Training Manager prior to attending an outside class to ensure that the training will count toward continuing education credits.
Do you offer trainings to other agencies?
Yes. If you would like Focus on Youth to come to your agency or company to train on a particular topic, please contact the Training Manager for additional information.
Do you provide childcare for all trainings?
No. Childcare is only offered for current Focus on Youth foster families during occasional trainings. Please contact the Training Manager for additional information.
